DEVELOPING THE RIGHT VALUE SYSTEM

Psalm 16:5-11
The Bible says, ‘Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould, but let God re-mould your minds from within, so that you may prove in practice that the plan of God for you is good, meets all his demands and moves towards the goal of true maturity’ (Romans 12:2).
We live in a world where people now place their values on tangibles. Their sense of worth hinges on material acquisition and what other people feel or say about them.

As long as we are being influenced by the world system, we will not have the right perception towards life. We won’t be able to see as God sees. Our ways and thoughts will always contradict His (James 4:4; Isaiah 55:8-9).
David cultivated the right value system by seeing the Lord alone, as the portion of his inheritance. He declared that vain is the help of man (Psalm 60:11; 108:12).
In today’s message, I want to profile the life of a man called Naboth (1 Kings 21:1-16). As we examine this story, I would like to point out some key points that are important to our day to day living.
Ahab offered to give Naboth another vineyard or the monetary value, in exchange for his family inheritance. However, Naboth bluntly rejected the offer, saying he would not trade away his fathers’ inheritance.

Likewise, the devil offers tempting prices and opportunities, just for the acquisition of your God-given inheritance.

Are you willing to accept? Would you rather negotiate away your birth-right for a morsel of meal? (Gen. 25:29-34; Heb. 12:16-17).
Ahab felt bad with Naboth’s insistent decision and through the counsel and support of his wife, he decided to eliminate Naboth in order to take possession of his vineyard (John 10:10).
Letters of authority were written in Ahab’s name and sealed with his seal, to the elders and noble men in Naboth’s city. In this letter was outlined a systematic order of how to get Naboth framed up and stoned to death.

Likewise, the devil has several schemes and devices which he has deployed in order to make Christians forsake their God-given inheritance…

Some of these schemes/devices are: deception, distractions (fatal attractions), undue gratification (exaltation), ungodly association, evil communication, lack of self-restraint, lack of self-abasement and lack of sensitivity, etc.
The instructions in the letters were carried out to the detail and Naboth was eventually eliminated.
The destiny of Naboth was aborted because he lacked the wisdom required to restrain himself from getting entrenched in the value system of the world.
Unfortunately, many Christians with glorious destinies end up like this, with their lives, dreams and visions abruptly aborted.
How can I develop the right value system?
See the Lord as your inheritance above all else.
Cultivate a lifestyle of praise.
Seek His counsel day and night.
Dwell in His presence.
