EXCEEDING GREAT REWARD

                                                             Genesis 15:1-5

Abraham made some very difficult decisions. He chose to go God’s way. He chose to obey God. He kept looking for the city which has foundations whose builder and maker is God… (Heb. 11:10).

The beginning of this chapter points out very important things to take note of, in the previous chapter(s). It says, ‘After these things…’

Something significant must have led to this. It's very important for us to take note of some of these events... 

Reading through from the past chapters, we see the antecedent of Abraham's call, and how God appeared to him and gave him an instruction to leave his father's house to yet an unknown place.

2 major strongholds: Sodom and Egypt (Rev. 11:8). This is the spiritual name of the city where our Lord Jesus was crucified. 

Sodom represents the height of immorality (lesbianism, gay, bisexual, transgender, promiscuity, etc).

Egypt represents idolatry, materialism, worship of mammon, etc.

Each of them represents and promotes the world value system which contradicts that of the Kingdom of God.

Abraham had to deal with these corrupt value systems before having a life-transforming encounter with God.

In Gen. 12:10, he went down to Egypt. In Gen. 13:1, he came up from Egypt. In Gen. 14:22, he rejected the offer of the king of Sodom. After these things, God showed up!

But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’” – Gen. 14:22-23.

Prepare your heart for an encounter with God. You must deal with every thought pattern and value system that tries to contend with the integrity of the Word of God in your life. Let God alone be true!!!

...The Word of the Lord came to Abram… (Gen. 15:1)
The Word of the Lord is not a respecter of persons, neither does He bow to difficult situations or circumstances that surround our lives. 

Vain is the help of man (Psalm 60:11; 108:12).

You can adopt a child, an idea, a strategy, a method or solution...but if that which you adopt is not born by the Spirit of Adoption whereby we cry Abba Father, it is vain...

The Word of the Lord will come unto you, and bring forth a new order in you, which the world cannot fathom!

Eliezer of Damascus was a great guy, but God desired to give Abraham (called Abram as at the time this event was captured) his own son!

Eliezer here, depicts the best of our plans and purposes for our lives, our ambitions and humanly conceived, devised and well mapped out strategies which might distract our attention from focusing on God's agenda for our lives.

Many times, our self-help programs contravene the divine order. Wait on the Lord and let Him fulfil His purpose in your life (Rom. 8:28).

You will not lose your reward. The Lord Himself is your exceeding great reward.
