WHAT DO YOU SEE - SEEING FROM GOD'S PERSPECTIVE

Bible reading: Numbers 13:25 – 33, 14: 1 – 9

Numbers 13:25-33(NKJV)  “And they returned from spying out the land after forty days. Now they departed and came back to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. Then they told him, and said: “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.” Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
Seeing is a function of sight but perception is a function of the heart. It is possible to see and not perceive. So, perception takes a deeper understanding of what is seen. (Mat. 13:13 -14). Two people may see the same thing but perceive differently as in the scriptures we jus read.
As previously outlined in the preceding part (that is, part 1), two levels of seeing are noted namely:
1.  Physical seeing, which is produced by sight. This can only see things that are physically appealing to the eye. This degree or level does not always consider other factors that may influence or affect what is being seen. It cannot see beyond the immediate. And the interpretation of what is seen is always as it is.
2.     Spiritual seeing, which can only be produced by spiritual sight (the mind eye or the eye of the spirit). At this level, the physical things you see trigger off spiritual antenna or searchlight to see beyond the physical, so that instead of seeing defeat, you see victory, and instead of failure, you see success.
What you see, and you allow to shape your world largely depends on the state of your heart.  The interpretation your heart gives to what you see is what you will get. Your thought is a product of your heart, and your height in life is a product of your thought (Pro. 23:7a).
What do you see - Grasshoppers mentality or winners’ mentality?
The realities of what the spies saw were only realities created by the prevalent situation, they however had power to create their own realities like Caleb and Joshua did. Seeing through the eyes of faith entails creating your own reality and live in it through your absolute reliance on God.
How should we see as Kingdom representatives?
1.     Maintain your positive trust and confession even at the face of fierce tempest
2.     Look to Jesus in a difficult situation and let Him lead you through
3.     Put your total reliance on the words of God. If God says it, He will do it
4.     See from God’s wisdom perspective.  See through the eyes of faith
5.     Seek to see Jesus before seeing your problems. Possess the mind of Christ in all situations - Phil. 2:5
Building the required sight to see the way God sees
1.     Through the word of God – Constantly be in touch with the word of God - Col. 3:16
2.     Through prayers and faith in God
3.     Through fellowship with the Holy Spirit of God

THE LOVE OF MY LIFE

John 15:9-13

Love is the essence of life. Without love, life itself is meaningless. The greatest expression of God towards humanity is love (Romans 5:8).
There is no way you can describe God outside love. God is love! (1 John 4:8).

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law (Gal. 5:22-23).

The fruit of the Spirit is centred on the attribute of love. Without love, one cannot operate in the fullness of God’s power.

Love never fails! Love never fades away! Love never ceases! Prophecies will fail, tongues will cease, knowledge will pass away, but love is ever abiding… (1 Cor. 13:8).

According to the illustration given by our Lord, Jesus Christ in Matt. 25:31-46, love is the difference between the sheep and the goats.
The love of God alienates you from the ways and thought patterns of the world. You can’t love God and embrace the value systems of the world (Matt. 6:24; James 4:4).

Everyone has some measure or degree of the understanding of love (at least to a certain extent…). However, the question is not whether you understand or possess love or not, but the question is, ‘Who is the object of your love?’

For some folks, it’s their spouse, for some others, their children, while some shower all their attention and affection on themselves. Others will say it’s their career, business/means of livelihood, ministry and many others…

God should be the centre point of our love life.

Jesus said to Peter, ‘Simon the son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these? Feed My lambs/sheep’ (John 21:15-17). The love of God constrains us to remain strictly focused on our God-given assignment.

‘Remember from where you have fallen and repent and do the first works...’ (Revelation 2:4-5).

Any work that is not saturated in love is not acceptable before God (1 Cor. 13).

How can I showcase the love of God?
Mark 12:28-34.
With all your heart (purpose) – Acts 11:23; Prov. 4:23
With all your soul (emotion) – Luke 1:46-47; Psalm 34:2; 103:1-2
With all your mind (intellect, understanding) – Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:23
With all your might (strength, vigour, life, resources, time) – Eccl. 12:1
Shower that Godly love on your neighbour – Luke 10:25-37

I WILL NOT LACK

To lack is to be in need of something (means of sustenance), to suffer inadequacy, scarcity, insufficiency, famine, drought, poverty, etc. To be deprived of something which is very important to one’s happiness, satisfaction and fulfilment in life.

Lack is not just a function of your physical or social status, much more, it’s a function of your mind.

Do you possess an abundance or lack mind-set?

Are there good in the land of Nigeria? Is there still fullness in Nigeria? Are there still resources to go round everyone in Nigeria?

The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing (Psalm 34:10).

The old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered (Job. 4:11).

Why do people suffer lack? Some of the reasons are listed here:

Sin (plague of the heart)
Mind-set of lack
Laziness (slothfulness)
Lack of wisdom
Pride (arrogance/haughtiness)...
Wastefulness/lavish lifestyle... living above your means
Stinginess - withholding more than is necessary... only leads to penury.

How can I be free from lack?
Follow the Shepherd with willingness and obedience (Isaiah 1:19)
Diligence – There is dignity in labour (Prov. 10:4; 12:24)
Seek God above all else (Matt. 6:33)
Enlarge your heart (Isaiah 55:2)
Fear the LORD (Psalm 112:1-10)
As you commit yourself to God and His Word, the yoke of lack is broken in your life... The LORD will restore the years!

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD: SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT - Psalm 23:1

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD: SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT
Psalm 23:1

The word discern means to distinguish, to recognize or find out something, to observe, to become conscious of something...
Discernment is the ability to judge well. It could also be defined as the quality of being able to grasp and comprehend what is obscure; having the right perception towards a matter; being able to see what is not evident to the average mind...
Spiritual discernment involves being able to spot the difference between the truth and error.
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil (1 Thess. 5:21-22).
So that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine (teaching), by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes (Ephesians 4:14).
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world (1 John 4:1).
Moreover, in the relationship between the Shepherd and the sheep as portrayed in Psalm 23:1, more emphasis is laid on the Shepherd than the sheep... It's all about the Lord, not the sheep... (Acts 9:6).
Always remember that you are a steward. The real and rightful owner of all things is God (Romans 11:36; 2 Cor. 5:18).
‘...Alas, master! For it was borrowed...’ (2 Kings 6:5).
‘And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of revelation, there was given to me, a thorn in the flesh...’ 2 Cor. 12:5
The Shepherd must take the lead, while we follow on. He said, ‘Follow Me...’
The sheep has no agenda of its own. It simply follows the Shepherd.
Can we forsake all our ‘good’ plans and ambitions and yield totally to the leading of the Master?
Does He have the access privilege of interrupting our ‘well-structured’ and ‘properly set’ goals and aspirations?
On one hand, He could decide to call some folks out of an existing structure/system, to go start-up another one. He called Abraham out…

He could also decide on the other hand, to call some other folks to stay put in an existing platform (He does everything according to His determinate counsel and foreknowledge). He told Isaac to stay put in the land…
Spiritual discernment is a process of spiritual transformation whereby we are groomed into sonship. It sharpens our sense of judgment. The spiritual man judges (evaluates, appraises, discerns) all things.
How to grow in spiritual discernment
Build up skills in the word of righteousness (Heb. 5:13-14; 2 Tim. 2:15).
Ask God for wisdom (James 1:5; Ephesians 1:17-18). It takes wisdom to distinguish good and evil; truth and error...
Christ must increase, while I must decrease (John 3:30).
Trust and obey the Lord (Proverbs 3:5).

When you build up your life on the basis of the Word of God, you will be able to differentiate the original from the counterfeit. Your sense of discernment becomes more and more enlightened. Keep following Jesus!
He is the good Shepherd (John 10:11).
He is the great Shepherd (Hebrews 13:20-21).
He is the Chief Shepherd (1 Peter 5:4).
