Ambassadors for Christ
2 Corinthians 5:18-20

Who is an ambassador?
An ambassador is an accredited diplomat sent by a country, as its representative in a foreign country.
A diplomatic official of the highest rank sent by a country or sovereign state to represent its interest in a foreign land, for a specified period of time.
An authorized messenger or representative (Acts 8:27).

Which kingdom do we represent?
As ambassadors of Christ, we represent the heavenly kingdom. We must live by the principles of God’s kingdom while we are here on earth. We have been chosen by God, in Christ Jesus, even before the foundation of the world for this purpose (Ephesians 2:10; 1:4). Our citizenship (conversation) is in heaven… (Phil. 3:20-21).

Some of the core values of this kingdom are:
Love, holiness unto God, righteousness, judgment, faith, patience (long suffering), mercy, integrity, humility, etc.

Some of the demands of being an ambassador
Reconciliation – One of the core functions of a heavenly ambassador is the ministry of reconciliation. God has given us the Word of reconciliation through which we bring men back to Him. It’s also a ministry of intercession (standing in the gap for others).
Our basic job functions are to redirect the hearts of people to God, to provide a platform through which men will fulfil their God-given purpose on earth, to sensitize people about the second coming of Christ, to teach them how to be heavenly focused.
Hebrews 13:14, Ephesians 4:11-13.
Liberating men from the oppression of the devil (Matt. 10:1; Luke 10:17-19; Mark 16:17-18).
Enhance and uphold the values of your home country (heaven), while you are in the host country (earth) – Abraham (Hebrews 11:9-10); Daniel and his friends (Daniel 1-3).

Some of the benefits
Divine provision - for every God-given vision, there is a provision! For every divine assignment, there is a consignment!
Divine protection – 1 Chro. 16:21-22; Psalm 105:14-15
Honour (high esteem) in the sight of men
Eternal reward

‘But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light’ (1 Peter 2:9).

We are Christ’s ambassadors because we have been divinely approved by God to be entrusted with the message of the Gospel of the kingdom (1 Thess. 2:4).

As heavenly ambassadors, we must represent Jesus daily in our world – in our homes, at our workplace, in school, among our peers, in the church, in our closet, etc.

We are in the world, but not of the world (John 17:14-16).

‘Don't copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect’ (Romans 12:2).

‘You adulterers! Don't you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God’ (James 4:4).

How can I be an ambassador of Christ?

Believe in the Lord, Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31)
Repent from your sinful ways (Acts 3:19)
Receive the salvation of Christ (Acts 4:12)
Experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8)
Keep growing in the faith (Jude 1:20)
