THE GIFT OF THE FATHER TO THE SON

THE GIFT OF THE FATHER TO THE SON
Lesson Text: Prov. 27:11
My son be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.

Everyone who is given birth to can be regarded as a child or children but not everyone is qualified to be called a son or a daughter.

Rom 8:14: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Let’s consider the lives of these two people below:
1.      Jesus Christ : Isa 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

  •  No wonder God said in Matt 3:17 (and lo a voice from heaven, saying. This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased).

  • Until the Lord is pleased with what our children are doing they cannot become sons and daughters in the sight of God

  •  We need to teach our children to do things that are pleasing in the sight of God

Acts 13:33
God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.)

2.      Solomon:
1 Chron 28:5-6: And of all my sons, (for the LORD hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

  •  Solomon graduated from being the son of a man to becoming the son of God

  • When you release your sons and daughters to service unto God, God will immediately assume the role of a father to them

  •  We need to train our Children to rely on God more than how they rely on us.

1 Chron 29:1
Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God).

  • When God chooses your sons and daughters, no matter how young or old they may be, God will wrought great wonders through them.

SOME REQUIREMENTS NEEDED BEFORE A CHILD CAN GROW INTO BEING CALLED A SON.
a.      We Must teach them not to live a life of sin:
Prov 1:10  My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

  •  We must train our children to live a life free from sin.

  •  No matter how old they may be we must not stop admonishing them

Prov. 1:15-16. 15: My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
16: For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.)

b.      He/she Must honour his or her parents:
Ex. 20:12 Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

  •   We must train our children to respect us.

  • When they do this, it buys them longevity and good success.

Deut 5:16 Honor thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

c.      We Must teach them through our actions to keep God’s commandment:
Jer 32:39  And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me forever, for the good of them, and of their children after them.

  • When they fear God, goodness will always follow you

d.     Teach them to always Yield to the instruction of God
Prov. 4:10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

  •  Train them to learn how to follow God’s instruction

e.      Teach them how to tap into the wisdom of God
Prov.4:11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

  • Train them not to always rely on their own understanding but always seek the wisdom of God at all times

f.        Let them know they are open to rebuke from God whenever they sin
2 Sam 7:14-15 (I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.)
Prov 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame

  •  Do not take the rod too far away from your children

g.      Teach them to be good children
Prov 20:20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.
Prov 1:8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother

  •   Train them to love both parents equally

John 5:19-20 (Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

A NEW AND GOOD NAME

                                                   A New and Good name.
Prov 22 vs 1 and 4. If we here are asked to make a choice between a good name and riches, what would be our choice?

Billy Graham once said" if you lose wealth, you have lost nothing, if you lose health you have lost something, but if you lose a good name, you have lost everything.

Let us all struggle to have and preserve a good name. It is more important than silver and gold.

Take the example of Joseph who denied the pleasure of having Potiphar's wife and preserved his good name and integrity. Also Job had integrity and refused to curse God. Anywhere you are protect your good name.
2nd Tim 2vs 19. Eph 5vs 27.

Let's keep away from iniquity as it can rob us of a good name.
Many of us are after power, but power without purity is nothing.

Prayer- Father give me the grace to choose a good name above riches and to act accordingly, Amen

WHO ARE YOU?

WHO ARE YOU?
JOHN 1:19-27
Identity has become a serious issue in the Christendom nowadays. The great question the world seems to be asking everyone is ‘Who are you?’
Other questions that might come in this form include:
‘What makes you different from us?’
‘Why do you think you are so special?’
‘Who do you think you are?’
The problem of identity is one of the tools that the devil uses to blindfold many people, even in the church. Through the loss of identity, he (the devil) robs a whole lot of people of their God-given fulfilment in life.
Who are you?
The devil paints a wrong picture about yourself to you, like saying ‘I can’t make it without being corrupt’, ‘It’s normal to cheat, every other person does it....’, etc.
In Genesis 3, the devil approached Eve and asked her the question, ‘Has God said you should not eat from any tree in the Garden?’ (Genesis 3:1-7).

The devil still uses the same old trick on Christians today. In the same way, he sells the idea of sin to us, making it look good, attractive and acceptable.
However, the standard and position of God regarding sin still remains unchanged!
Sin is sin! It is unacceptable, it is evil, it is abominable in the sight of God.
The first Adam lost his identity in God, and he lost his place.
The devil wanted to use the same old trick on the second Adam (Jesus Christ), but he failed (Matthew 4:3-10).
Jesus Christ knew who He was, who are you? Do you know who you are?

When you are a non-conformist, there seems to be a challenge on your guts and authority.
If you are a conformist with the world system, then you don’t have a problem with the devil and the world. If you must truly follow Christ, you will be hated by many (John 15:19).
When you conform to the world system, you will be spiritually deformed (Romans 8:6, 12:2).
John the Baptist came to revolutionize the religion of his age and suddenly, he became a threat to authorities in the religious circle (powers-that-be).

Some people fall under the error of painting a picture of what/who they are not, while some others don’t even know what they stand for.
Sometimes, the way the world system verifies our identity is to present some ‘open doors’ before us, which might not necessarily be from God. However, as promising as these ‘opportunities’ may look, they involve just a little bit of compromise here and there.
Until you know who you are in Christ, you can’t command an enviable future.
If you don’t have values, you will never be rightly valued. You must know your worth in Christ before you command attention on earth. (Of course, this is not an invitation to pride and arrogance.)
What people say about you is not important as long as it contradicts what God says about you. However, what God says about you becomes inactive if you don’t know or realize it. Knowing the mind of God spurs you into action (Daniel 11:32).

HOW CAN I IDENTIFY (KNOW) MYSELF IN CHRIST?
1. Beholding the Mirror of the Word with an unveiled face (2 Corinthians 3:18).
We can only know ourselves in the light of God’s word, through the personal revelation that we draw from Him.
2. Fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 2:9-14)
3. Allowing God to work on us (going through the process of divine incubation). (Malachi 3:3, Luke 1:80)

WHERE ARE YOU?

Bible Text: Genesis 3:8-12
“And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And the man said, the woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.”

Introduction:
Location is one of the few most important parts of any man's life. By one's location you can almost tell the destination of such individual. It is your location most of the time that dictates your position, where you are determined, and where you are heading for. Thus, it becomes imperative to consider our current position vis-à-vis where God wants us to be.
While it is true to an extent that your location is very important in determining the success or failure of your life, it also may not always follow that you will be successful or bankrupt because of your geographical location.

Your Statutory Location
When God asked Adam where he was, God was not just asking for his geographical location within the garden, but rather God was asking just as He is asking you and me where we are in:
1.        Your spiritual status
We are called to be spiritually minded and be upright in all our ways. His specific instruction to believers is that we should be holy and walk before Him with perfection.

2.        Your God-given ministry
Where are you in the ministry God gave to you? A lot of us had forgotten all about the ministry God gave to us, we now run after the things that God said He will give us as bonus. We have left the place of ministry for the place of money seeking and worldly pleasure. Col.4:14, 2Tim.4:10
Col.4:14
“Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.”
2Timothy 4:10
“For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

3.        Your marital status
Our matrimony as the body of Christ is a point, a location or position God has put us and He expects to find us ever faithful and fulfilling His purpose there. Your matrimony must be kept pure and holy. No form of intrusion must be allowed by a stranger.
Heb.13:4
“Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”

4.        The stewardship God committed in to your hand
God has placed in the hand of everyone a stewardship, but how faithful are we in what God has placed in our hands?
1Cor. 4:1-2
“Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

Consequences of Not Being Where God Wants Us to Be - Gen.16-20
Failure to be where God desires that we should be will definitely lead to but not limited to the following:
·        We lose our position in God.

·        We become dead spiritually.

·        We become slaves to sin and devil.
