ENSURING GOD’S PRESENCE IN YOUR HOME

PSALM 127:1

One of God’s agenda in these last days is to raise an end-time army that will declare His glory to the world.
‘But [the time is coming when] the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea’. Habakkuk 2:14 (Amp).

If the Body of Christ is going to play a strategic role in the manifestation of God’s glory in the latter days, there is need to raise godly families or homes.

Whether you are married, single or you still live with your parents, you have a role to play in the building of a godly home (Prov. 22:6; Eph. 6:1-4).

How to secure God’s presence in your home

1. Start with God, the ultimate Builder
Every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God (Heb. 3:4).
Discover and yield to His will, plans and purpose. Submit yourself to God. Give your life to Jesus.
2. Follow the divine order (1 Cor. 11:3; Ephesians 6:22-33)
Wives must be submissive to their husbands as unto the Lord, while husbands must love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her…
3. Be firmly rooted in the Word of God
Allow the Word of God to build you up, so that you can take your place (Col. 3:16; Psalm 119:11). Allow the Word of God to brood over you, let Him perfect His work in you from within (Rom. 12:2).
4. Build a family altar in your home (Gen. 26:25)
Fellowship with your household regularly before the Lord, in prayer, praise, worship and the study of God’s Word. Constant fellowship within the family guarantees God’s abiding presence in a Christian home.
5. The fear of the Lord (Psalm 128:1-6)
Take heed! Whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord, because you will surely give account to the Lord on how you handled your marriage.
6. Groom your children on how to live a godly and responsible life
Train them up in the way of the Lord (Prov. 22:6; 2 Tim. 3:15).
The Bible says they are like arrows in the hand of a warrior…. (Psalm 27:4-6).
7. Effective communication, agreement and bonding must increase between husband and wife (Amos 3:3)
You must leave to cleave…(Gen. 2:24; Matt. 19:5; Mark 10:7; Eph. 5:31)
Your spouse should be your best friend and confidant.
Your agreement and unity of purpose (oneness) will help the family to fulfil God’s purpose on earth.

May God’s presence never depart from our homes. And may the Lord enable us to build a glorious family that will reveal God’s glory on earth (Gen. 18:17-19).

IT’S ALL ABOUT LOVE

Revelation 2:4; 1 John 4:8

God is love. Love is God’s nature, it’s a core aspect of God’s character and His person. Just as He is a righteous and Holy Judge, He is also a loving Father.
There can never be a perfect definition or description of love outside God. It starts with God, because He is the originator of love (1 John 4:10, 19; Romans 5:8). When you take away the God-factor from love, it becomes lust (leading to self-service, self-promotion, self-aggrandisement, etc).

The whole law and the ministry of the prophets point solely to the message of love – loving God and loving your neighbour as yourself(Matt. 22:36-40).

When you live by the golden rule (Matt. 7:12), it becomes easier to operate in love.

The fruit of the Spirit centres on the attribute of love (Gal. 5:22).

Prophecies may cease, tongues may be stilled, knowledge may pass away, but love will abide forever (1 Cor. 13:8).

Knowledge makes people arrogant (puffs up), but love builds them up (edifies) – 2 Cor. 8:1.

Love is patient, kind, long-suffering, believes all things, never self-seeking, does not delight in evil, etc.

Of the three great virtues; faith, hope and love, the greatest is love (1 Cor. 13:13).

Love is the fulfilment of the law (Romans 13:10).

Love is the platform on which faith thrives. Faith works through love (Gal. 5:6).

Love drives out fear (1 John 4:18).

When we show God’s love to people around us, we receive the life of God and abide continuously in the light (1 John 3:14; 2:10).

The real essence of love is Jesus Christ, our first love…He loves us so much that He gave His life, for the remission of our sins. Do you still love Him? Have you placed Him on the top of your priority list? Are you passionate about the expansion of His kingdom?

Love is the identity badge of the followers of Christ (John 13:34-35).

Extend the love of God to someone around you…
Reach out to as many as possible, about the love of Christ and with the message of salvation.

THE BELIEVER’S ARMOUR

EPHESIANS 6:10-18

The Bible says we must fight the good fight of faith. The Christian race is a battle, it is warfare. As soldiers of Christ, we must equip ourselves with the spiritual weapons of warfare, in order to secure victory.
Victory in Christ is not secured on a platter of gold, the road to victory is full of trials temptations, tribulations, denials, persecution… (Acts 14:22).

Because we wrestle not against flesh and blood, our weapons must not be carnal, neither can we depend on tangible objects (2 Cor. 10:3-5).
Apostle Paul admonished us (Ephesians 6:12), to take up the full armour of God, so that we can stand firm against all the strategies (devices) of the devil.

Apostle Paul rightly sensed that wherever there was tremendous ministerial breakthrough, there seemed to be a high level of opposition and persecution of the Way (Acts 19).
As believers and children of God, we are soldiers of Christ (2 Tim. 2:3-4).

Armour - a protective covering that is used to prevent damage from being inflicted to an individual, object, etc….

What are the elements of the full armour of God?

1. Truth: Having your loins (waist) girded with the truth. The Word of God is the truth (John 17:17). We need to be established in the truth of God’s Word, so that we won’t be tossed around by every wind of doctrine.

2. Righteousness: It’s called the breastplate of righteousness. (It is simply God’s approval, not obtained by the works of men, but the righteousness of Christ, imputed upon us by God, received by faith). Through this, we have right-standing before God and men. Consequently, our hearts are guarded against the accusation and charges of the devil (Isaiah 59:17; 2 Cor. 5:21).

3. The Gospel of peace: As Christians, we are treading on a narrow path, which is filled with thorns and other dangerous elements. We must always put on our spiritual footwear, which is the Gospel of peace. This involves soul winning; reaching out to a lost world with the good news (Isaiah 52:7).

4. The shield of Faith: More than any other thing, the devil desires to suppress and kill our faith. Through the shield of faith (whose Author and Finisher is Christ), we extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one, such as unbelief, immorality, hatred, anger, covetousness, pride, envy, fear, despair, etc (1 John 5:4-5).

5. The helmet of Salvation: This involves working out our salvation with fear and trembling. Put on your spiritual helmet always! (Matt. 24:13; Hebrews 3:14).

6. The sword of the Spirit: This is the Word of God. It is offensive in nature. It is alive (it also quickens), powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12-13). The Word of God makes you wiser than the enemy (Psalm 119:98). The Word of God must become your sword of the Spirit; it must become your sword of excellency; it must become the Word of your testimony.

7. Prayer (praying in the Spirit): This is praying according to the will of God (Rom. 8:26-27). Prayer is the means through which we draw spiritual strength from God.
This also involves intercessory prayer. The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16).
Pray without ceasing (Luke 18:1-7; 1 Thess. 5:17).
Watch and pray (Matt. 26:41).

Brethren, it’s time to rise up! Let’s put this formidable spiritual skillset to use as we continually advance the kingdom of God and put the devil to flight…

Sermon:  STEPS TO A VICTORIOUS LIFE

Lesson Text: 1 John 5:4, 2 King 7:1-10

I. To live in victory you must think victoriously

a. Gloom breeds failure: It is impossible to live in victory without a victorious concept.

1 Corinthians 15:57

- If you are defeated in your thought life with negative thoughts of failure then you will never win. But if you put your mind into victory and HOPE, you will always win. Romans 15:13

You can live in doom and gloom or you can live your life surrounded in HOPE
b. David never allowed himself to focus on problems. Psalms 42:5

c. Learning to live in praise is essential to victorious living
- Praise builds our courage
- Bible References: (Jehoshaphat) II Chronicles 20, (Paul & Silas) Acts 16:20, (John) Revelations 1:10
-Praise builds our faith
-Praise puts our faith into action
-The building of our faith pleases God; It excites God when we trust Him. Hebrews 11:6

II. To live in victory you must get your eyes off your circumstance

a. Peter got out of the boat
- Peter focused on Christ not the storm
- As his attention shifted, he began to sink
b. Lame man at pool of Bethesda. John 5: 3-9

c. Sometimes, attacks come and they are so heavy that they overwhelm us, and it is hard not to focus on the problems that we are dealing with.
- When you are faced with loss in your life, it is difficult to stay focused
· Loss of health
· Loss of loved one
· Loss of possessions
- Attacks are hard and they hurt, they bring pain and suffering into your life.
- But Jesus is our CHAMPION, our REFUGE, our STRONG TOWER, our SHELTER in the storm.
- He is the God of HOPE
- Focus on the Promise not the problems.

III. To live in victory you must never accept defeat
a. Too many Christians come under attack and they give up. They want to just sit down and not move.
b. They think ‘if I don’t do anything maybe the devil won’t notice me, and he will leave me alone’, WRONG. You merely exist in defeat.
c. When you are defeated forward progress is stopped

d. Some people are sitting in the congregation and haven’t done anything for the kingdom in years. They look for any excuse not to be profitable for the Master.

e. Don’t live in defeat, do something. Ecclesiastes 9:10

CONCLUSION:

You can live in victory. You don’t have to remain in defeat.
1. Set your mind to thinking victory
2. Don’t focus on problem focus on the Promise
3. Do something, get up and get moving.
These are the steps to victory. As you begin to make these steps you will find that God provides victory in every situation of your life.
